I think Outer Wilds is in the secondary category. They could be mindless drivel to pass the time away or they can be great art in their own right. Ultimately it depends on what you think games should be. Okay I just gave a review stating I think this is one of the greatest games created of all time. If you're not then you might not get as much out of it, but that's fine too If you're the kind of person that is just naturally curious and wish games weren't so "GO HERE TO THIS MARKER" but also aren't frustratingly vague so you hit dead ends because the direction is so poor, this game is on another level compared to anything else. The stages of how your personal goal in the game might shift, and things like that Once you get playing you will discover a more pressing reason to investigate all of the above as it ties in very directly to your present-day situation.Īs for why the high praise of the experience is the cadence of discovery, the fact it's entirely self driven, and that your early assumptions of the story might have little relation to your eventual thoughts on it.
